Right now, a lot of DWers are posting invite codes because LiveJournal is getting periodically creamed by DDoS attacks, but I think that's not a particularly good reason to switch: all it takes is some dissidents getting DW accounts or something (as the story seems to be for LJ), and DW gets hit by the same stuff.

I find DW to be a bit technically superiour — the poll results display in a way that doesn't make my statistician eyeballs bleed, the cut tags work in a sensible, intuitive AJAX-y way, filters and friending are a bit finer-grained and use a more neutral set of terminology. But the big reason is that LJ doesn't seem to be run in a nice way anymore: ads, Facebook-y games bolted on, TOS changes, nobody knows what's going on... going to DW, with its subscription-driven business plan, regular news from the staff, feeling that the staff are on your side (I got a courteous, personal note when I filed a change request that was already in a bug report, for instance), and general aura of nice, is kind of refreshing. It's a bit squishy for a reason, but hey, it's leisure and it may as well feel good :)
