thoughts on Indian food
Jul. 21st, 2006 10:21 pmIn a brief conversation with
denkizero and
dzuunmod, we came up with the idea that Indian food (at least at our local place, Dosti's) is served spicier if you ask for, say, a lamb madras than a chicken madras. Something along the lines of "if you order lamb, you're not a typical North American who can't handle their spices."
I was wondering if anyone else had noticed this.

But then, vegetarian is also not standard North American fare...

But then, they do have to try to apeal to a wider audience. I remember when I went to a Thai restaurant with a co-worker of mine, and we were asked to rate how spicy we wanted the food on a scale of 1 to 10. He took 1, I took 10. Mine was deliciously eye watering, nose running, face flushing hot. So was his (for him! I had a taste to make sure they didn't mess up, and it was quite mild).
