Thoughts on an integrated North American security apparatus

Okay, so we're in a high-security world, where normal people who have the wrong name or are dead get on the massive no-fly list and can't get off. Overcoverage, it happens. At least nobody actually dangerous to fellow passengers or public health can get on and take a few international flights or anything.

It's a disaster, but these kinds of heavy-security things almost always are. A trans friend of mine was hauled out of the line and interrogated for three hours because he's only partway through his operations, so his passport lists him as "female" when he presents as male :(

Meanwhile, I'm sure an inventive terrorist will find a way on to a plane, sooner or later -- human ingenuity is (sadly in this case) infinite. It'll be the ordinary people who suffer, and I doubt the trip will get much more secure.
