Drawing February 19
Mar. 3rd, 2013 11:58 amI went to a drawing workshop a couple of weeks ago; our model was a familiar face from one of my favourite retail establishments in Ottawa. She was fun to draw and chat with at the break. If I can get organized, I think I'd love to spend some of the art store gift card from my parents-in-law on some pastel paper to work up and down in value — the last pose had me hankering to work lighter and darker more easily, and preparing neutral ground charcoal sheets is a hassle…

Some little gestural warm-ups.

The last quick warm-up drawing.

I'm not super-happy with this five-minute pose; I spent a bunch of time on her face but it didn't really gel.

I feel like these two five-minute poses turned out elegantly.

This was an interesting pose to draw.

This feels like a departure from my usual styles, and looks a little like a sarcophagus. I'm pretty happy with it, though.

I'm quite happy with how this face turned out.

This was a wider framing of the same pose, done quickly at the end of a long pose.

This one turned out pretty well; I got some positive feedback from our model.

Everything went right with this pose; it felt good by the time I'd laid out the legs. I erased back in the highlights a bit. It feels very art-school, which is a little bit of an ambiguous feeling, but I'm happy on balance.
