So, I'm leaning toward throwing my support behind the wonky, bilingual, at least somewhat scrappy decent human being and labour activist who plans to refractor labour law, taxes and benefits in favour of those who need a boost.

I am hoping someone out here wants to geek out on the merits of this.

Thanks for the reminder - I just joined for the first time. :) I have had a serious soft spot (verging on a crush) for Niki Ashton for years now. She was great as the Status of Women critic and, frankly, I like that she's not an old white dude. Her campaign is more utopian than Caron but that's upside for me.

I was kind of rooting for Niki Ashton in the last leadership race - I didn't really know anything about Guy Caron, but judging from his site, he looks like a promising possibility too. Perhaps just as important as that delicate balance between idealism and a practical and viable platform would be finding someone with a realistic chance of garnering widespread support. If we're looking at older visible minority women who meet that criterion, one name that springs to mind would be Olivia Chow (though I don't know if she's even interested in entering the race!) I think one major issue that any prospective candidate would have to address would be prevailing anti-Muslim and generally racist mindsets that depressingly seem to be growing in these parts.
