metawidgetToday I saw a bear just off the side of the bike trail through Gatineau Park (near the intersection of the trail parallel to the parkway and the trail parallel to Allumettières). I was wondering why the oncoming cyclist was way over to the left and then I saw a black bear cub that she was clearly giving a little space. I didn't stop to take a picture.
On Saturday Elizabeth and the kids and I went on a day trip to Picton for my cousin's wedding and met a Canadian-famous singer who was the sister of the bride. Her big album is a frequent source of driving music for us (although I didn't throw it in the mix on Saturday).
Last Friday little Morgen turned six weeks old. Heather and Andrea seem to be getting the hang of parenting and Heather is recovering well from the birth. I've gotten to hold and burp her a bunch and enjoy her growing repertoire of cute expressions. Ada is enjoying having a analyst person around and likes holding her… and also wants to be held like a baby a lot.
Last week we took delivery of a new fridge. It didn't leak like the last one but it also didn't cool down. So today a technician arrived and pronounced it needing a new part. Yay warranty but boo 3-5 days before the new part arrives. Meanwhile we have coolers and a chest freezer.
Twelve days ago I realized I had an infection in my elbow. I've been battering down the bacteria with antibiotics from then to Sunday. It's a lot less swollen but still itchy and red. I hope it'll resolve the rest of the way on its own. I thought I'd been off the Amoxi-Clav long enough to give blood today but they didn't like the look of my elbow.
Elizabeth's birthday and Thanksgiving were a big weekend of partying. As the kids get more bed-resistant it gets harder to hang out and chat with my folks after the kids are asleep but the daytime festivities in Ormstown were great. In Nepean we had nut loaf add good company and me dozing on the couch fighting off infection. But at least I participated! Elizabeth requested Indian take-out for her birthday, which I brought, and Heather and Andrea bright cake and various people brought beer — it was a nice kitchen and living-room party.
At the beginning of the month I started in a new position at work. Today was Meet the Director day for my new section (I have a new director, which wasn't the original plan but my Branch got reorganized between when I started planning the move and now).
It's been a bit of a month, I guess. And it's only the middle.
