Whew. Lots of week.

Ellie's show/birthday was beautiful and lots of fun. If you missed the show, the organizer at the yellow door seemed quite impressed, so keep your eyes peeled for another one.

Thanksgiving Monday was a big, crowded feast: one [livejournal.com profile] rottenfruit short of my ideal crowd, but a good gathering: kids running around, people I haven't seen in a while, incredible food (pumpkin cheesecake, samosas, and hot pepper jelly along with the more conventional turkey, ham, stuffing and root veggies). We managed to get in a smaller, night before thing with [livejournal.com profile] loupdebois, the newly-met Dominique, and my mom: squash, casserole, ice cream and Settlers of Catan: a good cozy pre-feast supper.

Had a test on Tuesday in Computational geometry, followed by tutoring in PHP that afternoon and yesterday... I've hacked PHP a little, but am getting to know a lot better by going over it with my student. Another useful skill finally getting honed because I had to explain it to someone else. That's how I jumped into Flash, too...

This weekend: a birthday incident, a goodbye party, and some miscellaneous geeking out: both gaming and more productive stuff.

There are better way to spend time than learn Flash. Flash is to website was Windows is to computers: evilness

It is also completely proprietary and Macromerdia does not publish the file format unless you agree to no make a "player"

When WWW is supposed to provide information in an open manner and independently from the computer system used, then it is a failure.

Where did you get that crazy supposition?

I'd agree that it's a worthwhile ideal, but saying that it's supposed to be that just seems rather arrogant as it excludes a lot of other worthwhile applications of the Internet, in favor of said likely unacheivable ideal.

Contributing, as such, to the Internet is grand, and I've contributed on both sides of the fence for 10 years+ myself. However, if I'd limited the things I was trying to achieve so that I ensured a level playing field, and more importantly, if everyone had done that, then there would have been a lot less pressure to "raise the bar" of what is supported across all platforms (which is to say all the 'nixxes would still run lynx or some such because images are "dumb", etc.)
