It has been forever since I did a good/blah entry. Life is pretty good, really. Way back when, I did these every 20 entries, so that there would always be one on the first page of my entries. Maybe I'll get back up to that pace again.

GoodBlah
  • We're within a payment of being done with the mortgage — we lucked out on interest rates and help and nice stable professional employment, and now we're looking at owning our place outright. It feels good.
  • Everyone here (human and cat) is currently pretty healthy (even my leg is feeling progressively better)!
  • Both kids are learning fun and exciting new skills.
  • I feel like I'm doing pretty well on my year list, including the long-term stuff.
  • Taxes are more or less done, and look to be in good shape: a refund but not a gigantic one.
  • I took my wedding band to the ring shop, and now it fits (my fingers have gotten more slender since 2008) and it got a complimentary shine as well.
  • I'm happily married to one awesome and beautiful person, and happily dating another.
  • Less than two months of parental leave left. Work will be kind of exciting, but the transition back could be rough.
  • World Vision keeps sending increasingly over-the-top fundraising pules. We got a great big envelope containing an bubble envelope containing a spoon and a measuring tape that they would like us to mail back to them (with a donation) for them to ship to Africa. I gave to World Vision in honour of my Christian relatives who are fans of them. Next in-honour donation will be to MSF or the Canadian Red Cross — close enough in the useful stuff they do, and at least their fundraising stuff is flat.
  • Feeling a bit sciatic-y, a little creaky in the knees and occasionally elsewhere, I think due to moving over winter footing with kids and groceries and stuff. I hope it clears up with better conditions.
  • There are always cool things I'd like to do, and don't make time for. Getting one or both kids to sleep and/or securing babysitting makes this one a little harder.

It's been a little while since I've summarized what's up in point form.

goodblah
  • Healthy
  • Getting the hang of caring for Oscar and being domestic
  • Put down flagstones in the back yard
  • Gathered a bunch of kale seeds for next year
  • Oscar's first overnight trip to my parents' place went well
  • Pretty prints from [livejournal.com profile] visioluxus arrived in the mail on Tuesday
  • Somehow managed to have seven kinds of cake last weekend, over three fun birthday parties
  • Small bits of preparation for Christmas achieved
  • Visiting J&K (and now R) is always nice — and they always shower us with tasty food.
  • Kind of tired and spacey
  • Missing work a little bit
  • Fussy o'clock seems to be a regular occurrence
  • Rapid-fire wet diapers
  • Joints a little achey

[personal profile] commodorified is already jonesing for Oscar pictures, so here is a new one my mum sent me (from our visit this weekend):

Elizabeth and I read really differently. Whether it's a book or a magazine, I tend to read stuff straight through; I at least have to take a crack at a chapter or article and give up on it before moving on to the next one. She moves around the volume and picks out what appeals to her. With good books, we both read the same amount of stuff.

People notice what pen they're using, and the pen supply at work is made up mostly of good pens (not Rands' favourites, but I like them).

goodblah
  • The new place is not really so new, anymore, and it feels nice.
  • The thesis is marked as accepted on my transcript. Convocation next month!.
  • Work is good, I'm producing stuff and soaking up how stuff works.
  • Work is paying me regularly. I splurged a little this week and got a little red iPod so I can bring my music and podcasts to work.
  • There are enough interesting people at work to keep me busy.
  • One of Ellie's colleagues and and her husband came over last night for supper, chatting and Catan, which was really nice.
  • New D&D game up and running!
  • Pumpkin carving party next Friday (details to come).
  • Looking forward to the wedding, and thinking, "we can pull this off".
  • Cat, laundry, worms and dishes are all doing fine. Laundry's being done in a machine we own, even, and Noisette is enjoying being alpha cat in the apartment.
  • Last little bits of freelance just don't seem to end.
  • We're bracing for an expensive Hydro bill as things get colder.
  • The GSA is apparently now run by the same idiots who gutted the teaching and research assistants' union, and the first thing they did was purge the competent committee appointments. At least I did my best over my term.
  • Lots of my friends are still in Montreal. So is Metro Joannette.
  • Push buttons at intersections still suck.
  • Had to replace my back wheel due to a broken spoke that went unnoticed for too long. Boo.
  • Spent the last week kind of sick.

Good Blah
  • Another semester bites the dust. With style. I hope.
  • There's clean laundry right here!
  • Noisette is more social than ever (still kinda aloof, but more social!)
  • Kitchen's in pretty good shape.
  • Less and less to hide.
  • Offers of as much work as I care to do.
  • Excited about Ottawa.
  • Loved and in love and sunshine and... yeah.
  • M.Sc. is still up in the air.
  • Up in the air was better than my bursary application is now.
  • Somebody please take my lease!
  • Floating hatchets.
  • Scared that I'm not scared enough about Ottawa.
  • Miscellaneous mis- and dis-communication.

A little late, but whatever:

goodblah
  • Laundry situation is fine — clothes relatively clean due to bike with fenders.
  • Hope for research goodness.
  • I feel loved.
  • The kitchen's in good shape.
  • Cat is all vetted up and in good shape.
  • FC is driving me a little batty.
  • Despair with research cohesion.
  • Next year's up in the air.
  • Sometimes, next week seems up in the air.
  • Those who drive me crazy do so in a completely justifiable way. I'd switch places with them and not much would change. Small consolation, and it makes it harder for me to get really angry at them.

Back at home for a bit — our Easter meal's tomorrow, of all days... as secular as possible, I guess... accidentally, just by who can turn up when.

  • I can delegate.

  • I replaced the gasket. And now I have a spare in the cupboard.

  • Grant applications cease to be a problem next Monday... ‘cuz they jump off to the next desk at that point.

  • People can’t read people.

  • Rejigging will happen.

  • Have a choice of provinces to celebrate Hallowe’en in.

  • Ready to go on programming.

  • Everything’s a project.

Had a nice relaxing night out, ate well (some things are consistent!) and had a far-ranging chat with a wise fool. Back to work tomorrow...

It’s all good...

  • Well-fed recently (this state is a happy conjunction of finances, time and mood).

  • Being courted for grad studies (not anywhere exotic, but that’s what life after the M.A. is for, I guess).

  • School kind of under control.

  • Finances sound.

  • Cuteness abounds in the vicinity.

  • No shortage of paying work.

  • RAM on its way to make this thing work faster, harder, etc.

  • Getting a free OS upgrade courtesy of work.

  • Getting to see a new coffee place tomorrow.

  • New co-worker seems positive and down to earth.

  • Can get up late or do errands in the morning tomorrow. This is sweetness and mercy!

but...
  • I can’t fall behind.

  • I cooked the gasket on my stovetop espresso thing (I forgot to put water in... if you use espresso to restore brain function in the morning, you have to set up the machine while impaired — not good). Now I have to find a replacement.

  • Grant applications threaten to eat my life.

  • I can’t read people.

  • I can’t follow directions. Will have to rejig schedule next week.

  • No idea what province I’m celebrating Hallowe’en in.

  • Must break out of programming rut soon (in next 16 hours or so)!

  • Everything’s a project.
