This may be my last entry from my current computer — my supervisor's acquired a new laptop and has decided to pass his on to me, and mine is tripping on down to [livejournal.com profile] loupdebois sometime in the near future... the "new" machine is actually the same vintage as my current one, but whereas I got the basic model, my supervisor's is the tricked-out one with a somewhat faster chip and much more space.

Went out to the country with [livejournal.com profile] rottenfruit Saturday night, arrived very tired to supper with my folks, my sister and her boyfriend (who we hadn't met before). I think we both pretty much approve... almost as soon as my mom was alone with us she had a mini-debriefing session to get our opinions. It's not much of a stretch to presume that way back in March there was a similar debriefing right after Elizabeth and I were on the bus. It was a nice wander out, and a good change of pace. Lots of talking, plenty of rest, some dreamlike moments and even some required reading.

I think that cold that I've been dodging since the beginning of the semester just thwacked me. Buy your tissue futures now. This week'll be a little lighter, but still with a couple of freelance appointments -- and that's only what's arranged ahead. Still, if I'm smart I'll be careful to sleep and eat well.

Comment on this post and...
1. I'll respond with something random about you.
2. I'll tell you what song/movie reminds me of you.
3. I'll pick a flavor of jello to wrestle with you in.
4. I'll say something that only makes sense to you and me.
5. I'll tell you my first/clearest memory of you.
6. I'll tell you what animal you remind me of.
7. I'll ask you something that I've always wondered about you.

I think you missed 2 and 4 unless that was done on purpose. And a Meerkat? What's a Meerkat? Is it that creature from the Shannara books?

Oh, and i'm a life long Montrealer. :)

I can't imagine you'll be able to come up with all those answers.

Huh... well done. :) And your answers amuse me. I guess I do talk about a lot of places like they're home.

Why lychee!? Have I confessed my adoration for lychees here? I had no idea!

I met Geoff at the bookstore I worked in while in Edinburgh, and I met him just when I started working (so, end of Sept 2003). We started dating about a month later. If you're actually interesting in the whole gushy story - which, I must warn you, was written while I was still in the throes of romantic shock and awe - it's here. :) http://www.livejournal.com/users/almond_tiger/512916.html

That's neat. Though I didn't try lychees until I went to scotland, I do see where you're coming from. :)

I kinda don't do memes on my journal. It's not a definite rule or anything, and I rarely mind reading or participating in them in other people's journals, but it just doesn't work for mine. I don't even have a coherent reason why.

I'd forgotten about this: for me, the main appeal of media junkiedom is the editorial page. It's all about the ideas for me.

Get opinions on the sister's new boyfriend? Odd.

Heh, I was just commenting on your entry, rather than fishing for the meme thing. I figured meeting me exactly once would make this rather difficult, but you did give me a vibe that you might be someone that I'd find interesting. A bit early to say, though. :-)

Stallman's pet gnu? LOL! Considering how annoying I find the man, that's quite hilarious! I guess I'm one of these pragmatic "open source software" people rather than an idealistic "free software" person. I think we need the latter around, as they seem to provide some beacon to look at, but using their bloody software (Debian's "it doesn't work at all, but it's free so you could fix it" being better than "it's closed, but working good and well-maintained" policy, for example) and talking to them (or any other kind of zealot-type people) generally irks me.

I didn't even know what the COMS is, I had to google it up! I'm just some guy, really. I know some number of people who go at or went at Concordia, but not particularly COMS or another program (although I used to know a few people in the IT department there, the IITS I think it's called). I never went to any university, myself.

Yeah, now I can sort of see how that happens, it's just the usage of "debriefing" brought back images of actual debriefings I've had in the past for work (used to work as a system analysts for the supercomputer contractor of Environment Canada), and I thought that was just weird. :-)

"No Business Like Show Business"? Really? May I ask why?
I hate that song, but I LOVE the show it's from (Annie Get Your Gun). :)

Yes, I met your sister, though breifly...she came to my husband's birthday dinner.

It's a really, really, really small world, isn't it?
