The kids are getting more cuddly with us — we had five in the bed around 7 AM yesterday — and perhaps a little more fighty with each other. They're also getting more interested in school-type things, including Ada, for whom Elizabeth printed off some alphabet activity sheets so she wouldn't feel left out.

Speaking of not being left out, we're anticipating a big delivery of maple products from a sugarbush in L'Ange-Gardien. Review perhaps to follow! We'll miss our annual trip West of Ottawa but we'll make do.

There's an Andrew Coyne piece on how this doesn't change everything which brings by own thinking into focus. This won't automatically change everything, but we should be paying attention and ready to point to some of the innovations and habits we develop and demand that they become the long-term normal: income support, new notions of who's essential, more support for telework. Don't waste a crisis, as Naomi Klein might say.

In personal finance land, investment ramblings… maybe only asimplelife will read this ) The short of it is… we're lucky to be stable money-wise and I'm trying to be calm and smart about it.

Ask Culture and Guess Culture (Found via Captain Awkward)

I think I'm guess by nature, but I can see how ask would be a good one to have a feel for, at least to pull out of my back pocket when I need it.

I'm not sure which model fits more at work — big-organization people, civil servants in particular reading this: what do you think?

…ESPECIALLY the ones that barfed on me.

The flip-side is when fun, happy woodgie is our fault*, too.

*and I know fun woodgie can result from many different relationship structures!

1. What animal can you most relate to?

I think probably a horse: mobility, skittishness, work ethic and enjoyment of comforts like rolling in the dust and the greenest grass possible.

2. What question have you always hoped someone would ask here, but has yet to appear?

That one, only I like the flexibility without having a question ready. Probably a question starting with "what really happened when you…"

3. Do you believe in life after death?

No, I believe this life is it, aside from whatever legacy you leave, and that you don't get to look down and watch people enjoy that legacy, only look forward to it being enjoyed.

4. Ideally, where do you see yourself in five years?

In a house with a yard, that we and the bank own, with [livejournal.com profile] rottenfruit and Noisette and a kid that won't be named Ruggles. Home from challenging, meaningful work at StatCan or some other shining tower of geekery.

5. What is/are your favorite song(s) to sing in the shower?

Probably eels' Grace Kelly Blues (goddamn right).

a(b+c)=(ab)+(ac). Politicize that, bitches.

Math is fundamentalism for the sane.

Well, and the more-or-less sane.

Always speak from an abstract that speaks to your heart.

Don’t let people introducing you say too much.

Modularize.

Things are good if a little busy... had a nice night out, skipping from a cat-and-Torontonian([livejournal.com profile] mindrobber)-welcoming at [livejournal.com profile] emjayne and [livejournal.com profile] moonlightjoy’s place to a party where the music for which I went never actually happened but a lot of interesting people (including [livejournal.com profile] tylerpistol) turned up. Friday night was another shindig somewhere else, Wednesday was a potluck here... lots of social contact, lots of nice people, but I’m just about out of steam now... this week promises to involve a lot of writing and some sleep...

Been doing a lot of big-issues talking with assorted people recently, and have some big-issues papers and research to go. Less than a month of undergrad to go... I feel that even being stunned is somewhat productive these days.

More later, in less than the week entries seem to be taking of late I hope.
