1. What is your work/school commute like?

Summer: by bike in my work clothes — Strava on, maybe do an errand on the way.

Winter: by express bus after dropping the kids at school. Sometimes with an ambition to read a book but often just noodling around on phone news, Wordle and e-mail.

2. What did you want to be when you grew up? Has it changed?

I had astronaut, engineer, architect, web designer, propagandist and science journalist in my sights over my career. Now I design algorithms and explain statistical processes and methods to people (including statistical laypeople). So different, but not shockingly so, aside from how far it is from astronaut.

3. What is your weirdest work/school/project related story?

Might be the time I flew up to the Lower North Shore to teach Web basics? Or went to a transgenic goat farm to take pictures for a website? I had to wear clinic booties over my shoes, touch nothing and wash my hands obsessively on the way in and out.

4. What is something you're closely familiar with that media always gets wrong?

The media's understanding of contract expiry dates and real pay has been perhaps deliberately wrong in many cases, but really, even friendly sources often flub details.

5. Describe the stuff on your desk/workspace.

Foreground: cables, coffee cup, phone, two laptops, bullet journal, pen. Background: union stuff storage, binders, basement laundry hanging area.

Facebook thinks I might want to buy an orchidometer ("the endocrinologist's rosary!") or maybe a pack of 100 smell-proof bags. I'm posting this fact here so that it doesn't get more evidence supporting that hunch.

Ada's drawing of the day "started with grass" but went on to draw a castle touching the moon and a temple ("not a mountain") containing the sun.

As for me, I had a dream where I was naked (thinking "I'm often naked in my dreams, I can be cool about this even in reality"). At a party. Trying to social-distance. With a trans guy wearing plastic pony leg pants (kind of a synthetic faun) arriving late à la White Rabbit. And a beautiful sunny room with skylights and pillows just down a hall full of people that I should probably keep my distance from…

Brains are wonderful.

Here are some selected photos from 2015 so far — we get out, we weave stories, we make trouble and go to things.

Oscar and Vivien looking at each other with the piano and a grownup in the background.

The kids looking at each other... another photo post!

Before it's too late, happy International Dadaism Month.

Next day of the month is on Friday.

There are a couple of evangelists, with an amplifier, out in front of de l'Eglise metro. We can hear them from up here, in the back of the apartment, with the windows closed.

It turns out, Bell, when I cancelled my account, charged me $2.68 for "tolerance". Yes, I know what it means, but still, it's a nice illustration of telco manners.

I got to sleep until I was more or less naturally awake with my beloved last night. Not being a slave to the alarm clock feels very good.

Lots to do as usual: coding, administration-y stuff, studying... the end of the term is coming, though. I'm a little exhausted, but stuff is falling by the wayside a little more gracefully than it has in the past.

I'm having a funny relationship with the future right now. It's pretty unreal, even though I'm looking forward to, dreading and just acknowledging some fairly real things.
